Our recipient shared with us her struggles with mental health and appropriately titled her essay “The Day I Asked for Help”. In 2021, she was quarantined with COVID and felt like nothing was going right. Once back in school, she felt her seasonal depression coming back. She lost the ability to care about anything. She wrote, “I had piles of schoolwork that were miles high yet was not motivated to even read the directions. I didn’t care about what I was wearing, because I would go right back to bed as soon as I got home. Jason joined GRBS in 2000 and earned his position through successful tenure as an Account Manager, Regional Director, and Director of Operations. Joining the GRBS Leadership team in 1994, Darla established the Training and Development Department. She successfully ensured the growth of the company from 300 to 900 team members using a combination of media, technology and hands on methods for her programs. Darla now leads our operations leadership team as their director and mentor. Karin joined the GRBS Leadership team in 1989. In 1998 Karin was able to double the size of GRBS, expanding service from Grand Rapids to the entire State of Michigan. In 2004, she pioneered the first successful full district custodial program with Holland Public Schools, ensuring contract cleaning as a viable alternative. She is a graduate of the University of Michigan with her Master’s Degree in Organizational Development. Heather has worked in Human Resources, Supplies, Equipment, Quality, and Operations. Since 2012, Heather piloted the Perseverance Scholarship Program, awarding over $500,000 in scholarships to deserving High School students across the state. She transitioned to Marketing and Sales in 2017 where she now runs our social media and internal communications. In addition, Heather oversees our community involvement.
